St Augustine's Catholic College

Year 9 Options

As part of our College improvement drive, we are encouraging all our students to take active responsibility for their learning. With this in mind, we will be encouraging your son / daughter to prepare for the options process themselves. They will have until Friday 28th March to reflect upon the choices available and as parents / carers and teachers we will be with them to support and guide them to take the initiative.

Prior to options evening:

  • The PSHE curriculum has been designed to support year nine students during this term to make well informed choices.
  • An options reflection task which will provide your son / daughter with some questions to help guide them with their choices; and this will form part of their ‘progress journals’ which we have been using to capture their learning journey through college.
  • Time in registration to facilitate discussion on good questions to ask subject teachers;
  • An Options Booklet for parents and students which gives an overview of the Key Stage 4 curriculum and the subject choices available.
  • Students were given access to QR codes which took them to different career websites.

Post options evening:

  • The progress grade 2 report is due on the 10th March and this will give an invaluable up-to-date view of progress.
  • The Year 9 face to face parents evening which will provide an opportunity to hear about progress and ask any further questions related to option choices (20th March 2025);
  • Time in tutor for your son / daughter to reflect upon their Personal Development Plan to think about the broad direction they are interested in considering for their future.
